New P - Plate Rules

Restrictions on night driving for P-plate drivers and one - year extension to the provisional license period have won support from road-safety advocates. But youth groups say the initiatives are discriminatory and have rejected the proposals, which include raising the minimum driving age from 17 to 18.

The SA government recieved almost 1100 submissions to its Graduated Licensing Scheme Initiatives to protect young Drivers.Almost 4000 people aged between 16-24 have been killed or seriously injured on state's roads in past decade.

The submissions emphasised

1- Night time curfews -restricting driving between midnight and 5 am for P1 drivers.

The scheme is part of the state Government's road safety stratergy for the next decade.
